Health problems in Indonesia

First two weeks of January 2007, there were cases of bird flu in many areas, including Jakarta. And then Hameorrhagic Dengue Fever (DHF). According Depkes (Department of Health), until January 31, 2007, FDH has caused 144 deaths of 8,019 patients. Yet health problem in Indonesia's far larger and more complex as avian influenza and dengue hemorrhagic fever. The anaemia, diarrhoea and tuberculosis, for example. Today, there are approximately 20 million patients with heart disease problem in Indonesia and it caused the death of 30% in Java and Bali. The infectious and parasitic diseases were the causes of death of 22%. In the year 2005, Indonesia has 5 million children suffer from inadequate nutrition. Environment unhealthy yields TBC 557000 new cases each year. About 250000 of them was infectious TBC. Every year, there are 100000 child deaths caused by diarrhoea leads by bad sanitation and access to drinking water. Questions of health insurance, unrational drugs, counterfeit drugs is another health problems in Indonesia.

What pharmacist can do to help? Providing high-quality drugs at low prices and equality in the distribution chain. To promote the rational use of drugs to the patient and the doctor. Developing rational pricing policy. To strengthen the monitoring of the drug industry. Expanding health insurance for all citizens. It will be a mammoth task, it will be difficult but it is possible.
